even more inspiring

After 2 weeks the abandoned baby has made huge steps, if only metaphorically.  The scabies is now cleared up and the impetigo long gone.  When I first met her in the Paediatric Ward her skin was so bad her fingers were firmly stuck together and contracted, her skin peeling and shedding, blisters all over her face.  Now she had a little sheen to her complexion and was looking well nourished.  I think her obvious neglect speaks to not only the poverty here but the culture that still exists in many countries, even ‘well developed’ ones; disability carries a huge stigma.

We had a Physio Therapist join the Volunteer Team (well duo) last week – also for a year – and she has been working with the child, now known as Loudje.  She knows I have a soft spot now for baby Loudje so I know it was hard for her to say; her hearing and vision are ‘really limited’ (I get the code).  But it makes it all the more remarkable to me that her foster mother (and some time therapist too) will also have known this; yet was (and is) so committed to giving her the best she could with all the love in her own family setting.

Total respect.

Just caught up with your blog Phil. What a lot you have taken on! Sounds as though we in the UK take far too much for granted. Like Ginny and Andy, we would love to make a donation to support your work, Sharon and Andy xxx
