haiti’s most wanted

One of our great supporters at the hospital is Handicap International (HI) and in mid-January we received a container load of wheelchairs.  540 to be exact.  We roped in some of the security guards, and the grounds team to unload them – and even one of our contractors who came looking for money was roped in to help!

We hope to distribute them not just to our hospital but around the whole of Haiti.  When the container arrived I had to break the seal with the customs guy.  He was very sketchy and was definitely looking to see if there was anything of value in there to levy a charge against us (did I mention Haiti is in the top 20 of most corrupt countries on earth?).  

When we pulled out the fist box and opened it to see a wheelchair, he settled down and just signed off the form which was nice. 

He left in a bit of a hurry though…
