if Carslberg made beaches…

… Haiti would have more than its fair share.  I have been to some terrific, if not fantastic beaches in Haiti.  But you can’t please everyone.  Yesterday we went to Chouchou Bay probably a mile or more of golden sand, clear blue water, fringed by palm trees with forested mountains dropping into the water.  Oh and virtually nobody around; a couple of locals who cooked us lunch and some folk hauling in there catch.  I went over and chatted, took my turn helping haul their net in.  It was hard work dragging it in and up the beach, I’d say they cast it comfortably a half mile off shore.  Their catch, pitifully small.  Only a couple of fish more than a few inches long, a baby eel, and some very small swordfish.  Enough to feed a family for a few days I suppose, or a single meal for a family from the developed world.  A little reminder of how hard  life is out here.

Anyway friend from another charity ‘came with’ (as they say nowadays), “Well compared to Paradis Beach, I’m not overly impressed”, she said.  FFS (as I say) – but don’t let me influence you, judge for yourself (my footage, not a promo).

Hi Phil- I thought about you the other day and thought I would check in on how things are going for you. A very interesting read- I will read some more in the coming days. I hope all is well with you. All is okay this end, not much has changed and we are still all working at home, with limited access to beaches (unless Weston super-market counts). Take care, John
