I’m sorry but I couldn’t take a photo for this one, not without it being rude and hitting the stereotype “great white saviour” NGO type, which I am absolutely not.
Anyway, we are putting in a new water main – I think I already shared some H&S stuff around the drilling rig. The guys digging the trenches around the site are obvious, they have fluorescent orange Hi-Viz vests. So far, so good.
The ground is hard here, at least the surface few inches, due to the heat. And of course, everything is done the old-fashioned way: brute force as we don’t have much plant equipment. The best option is therefore a good old fashioned pick-axe. Technique is functional; straddle the line of attack and heave the pick-axe down from above your head to between your feet. Your bare feet. Unlike the drill boss, these guys don’t even bother with flip-flops…
