Highlight of today was distribution of 10,000 Easter eggs (proper ones, not crème eggs) to hospitals and schools, plus 18,600 Hot Cross Buns (from Tesco’s ‘Finest’ range, don’t you know) alongside the core product delivery targets to our fantastic NHS staff.
We had an ‘early’ shift (0700 start) and ‘day’ shift (1000 start), obviously I was there at 0645 (until we turned off the lights). Tiring, yes. Draining, no.
So those 10,000 Easter eggs. They had to be broken down from pallet to individual item level, opened, ‘Easter card’ inserted, resealed, branded, repackaged and palletised to required volume for recipient organisation! Very laborious work but I didn’t see anything but a smile, truly heart warming.
For the record, these were the Beneficiary Organisations for the eggs and buns:
Leeds General Infirmary, Great Ormond Street Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital, a local hospice, Banbury Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, Sherwood-Newark Hospital, a Special School in Cheltenham and large number of smaller organisations.
As with other organisations PPE (food safety oriented but with additional hand sanitiser) is a pinch point, so to optimise use we will have along day tomorrow and therefore a very short Sunday (to just put goods onto the vans). So for me Sunday will be very long indeed. But remembering why I am here will make it pass soon enough.
