What happened on Wednesday (Day 11)

By | 15 Feb 20

Wednesday.  When I woke this morning I thought the hard yards of the previous couple of days would pay off and I would get into a rhythm (and decent amount of sleep).  We have a great job lined up today, I get all the teams down to the renowned Buchan Caves to help open the access rotes and so open up tourism again, which will benefit the economy of the whole area.  The big boys on the chainsaws are lovin’ it, well in the morning anyway.  By the ‘arvo with the sun up it’s a different story, more (well earned) rest and water breaks.  Of course this is all second hand, I’m pushing paper and planning the next few days of activity, taking in ever more requests.  But when they finally roll in, all sawdust, sweat, ash and dust I take solace; they made the difference, but I decided where.  It’s a great responsibility, but I’m glad it is on me, because I now understand the situation on the ground.
Was planning on a proper kip tonight, but no, we have a personnel issue to sort out.  That’ll be another 5-hour kip then…
