We have long had problems keeping the fridge cold, of key importance out here when every day is never less than 28 degrees, over the summer we were at mid-thirties, and now into the autumn it still more than 30 most days.
The fridge door is dodgy, we can’t quite work out why, but the urban myth that counties send all their sub-standard goods to Haiti springs to mind. Anyway we have come up with a low-tech solution that I think we are all familiar with.
When one of the team comes back from a trip, our Physio went to US for a wedding, we have the ritual unpacking of ‘stash’ be it treats for the team, or bits and pieces for the hospital. This time the haul included security cameras, plastic tiaras (I’ll explain another day), a mobile phone (always popular for hospital staff), and some child locks for the fridge. Definitely something you cannot get in Haiti.
And to emphasise this point we had to explain why we had bought them, and how they worked to our housekeeper – she thought we were locking her out of the fridge!
