On the way back from a day in the field, we were held up by an articulated lorry blocking the road. Now I don’t mean a puncture or broken down in the middle of the road, but he had for some unknown reason begun a U-turn. He was now well and truly stuck with half of his rear wheels dangling over the ditch at one side of the road, whilst the unit was dug into the bank on the other side.
Our driver and a couple of the team got out, to offer helpful suggestions no doubt. After a few minutes the driver came back and started to find a route through the scrub, and maybe also someone’s property. He made it through with a healthy dose of speed and a lot of blind faith, that there was not a hidden ditch to stoof into.
As we waited for the rest of the team to rejoin, we ended up in a bit of a stand-off, over compensation for the ‘damage’ we may or may not have done. Great.
I just sat still, staring straight ahead out of the window, whilst negotiations were, thankfully, concluded.
